elementary school teacher for 34 years, retired two years ago, started a business offering week long building camps to ages 8-11 four times a year, using lego kits, mega blocks, pvc pipe and fittings, toothpicks/marshmallows, anything that gets them thinking and building 3D objects

Impressive! Your hired!! Just use proper grammar and all will be good.

All that time sharing building with kids, you must have seen some amazing things! I look back at what I used to do and wonder how I ever did it!

Hey there! Welcome to the forum!

Not to be a downer, but some people around here are sticklers for grammar and capitalization - it's what separates us from the giant Chuck E Cheese ballpit that is SpartanBloks. I'm sure you'll manage just fine, though.

Welcome! Sounds like you have had a pretty good life, making a business where you get to help people build and be imaginative must be fun. But a former teacher who isn't using grammar? Isn't that like, hypocritical? I suppose it depends what you taught...

Haha! As a Moderator for SB, I can't help but agree with your description, at least a little bit... Smiley

For you grammar critics, elementary school does not need to capitalized unless a specific school is mentioned. I wasn't aware my brief bio needed to be in complete sentences.
That should be spelled out in your bylaws.

To the critic who wrote, "Your hired!" while reminding me to use proper grammar.
I would ask if anyone here knows the difference between "your" and "you're".

I joined this group to get help finding instructions for the airplane option in the Night Copter, kit #9740.

Guess I'll have to go elsewhere.

And like that we go from trying to welcome you and give you a heads up on the grammer (If you read the rules you would have seen) to now wanting to to wish you the best as you gtfo...

What the... all 3 of us were perfectly reasonable in our suggestions. My comment was meant to come across as jokey, I did not intend to sound rude (to be fair I should have put a smiley face at the end to make that clear).

However, you need to look up 'Internet etiquette'.

Not to worry, the Grammar Dementors are dragging Valo away as we speak Smiley.

Seriously, though, the remarks aimed at you were lighthearted suggestions, and no one had a serious issue with you. I really don't see what it was that we said that you got so offended about.

These comments scared someone away? Sheesh, When I was new here, there were talks of pools of piranha, wolves, All sorts of vile and evil things, here, someone jokingly calls a teacher a hypocrite, and he's offended... Hmm. Weird.

Touchy, touchy...

Obviously, he joined for one purpose and ignored everything in his "welcome packet" because it wasn't worth his time. Now, even if he does stay, he's forever "that guy who made an cloaca of himself" in the intro forum.

Can you imagine the reaction if somebody had been truly critical?

Ah, well, piranhas gotta eat sometime.

I was actually thinking about this guy yesterday at the mall. I found LEGO candy and thought it would be the perfect thing for testing children's creative potential. You just sit all the children down, drop a pile of candy in front of each, and then sterilize the ones who
eat their candy, euthanize the ones who try to eat other people's candy, keep any that immediately start building things, and develop a special leadership program for anyone who steals a stupid kid's candy in order to build something bigger and cooler. Anyone caught stealing from the other smart kids in order to build something uninspired would of course be put on the fast track for government employment.
