A clever product designed for use with 1/64 diecast vehicles, the Stackers Building System offered a storage/display case that could be integrated with conventional brick-based construction toys. I only ever saw them at Target stores, and only in late 2002, but in researching this entry I've learned that the product may have persisted at Dollar General and Big Lots stores until at least 2006.
The cases were comparatively simple, consisting of a base with LEGO-compatible tubes underneath, three clear plastic "walls" a clear plastic "door," and a top measuring 6 studs by 12. The quality of the plastic was reasonably good, but the overall design was somewhat flimsy and prone to accidental dismantling. It was also a little bit tricky to reassemble a storage case once the walls had come apart. When assembled, the case was the same height as six stacked LEGO bricks, and the base and the top of the case were a single color.
Judging from the product's packaging, these were apparently available in red, blue, green, yellow, black, and white. The basic set featured two pre-assembled cases, though it appears that some versions of the set also included a 1/64 diecast vehicle.
It also appears that ERTL may have planned to release a modular race track system to complement the Stacker storage cases, but it's unclear whether the track was ever released. The current ERTL website makes no mention whatsoever of the Stackers Building System.
