You're probably seeing the incredibly annoying "Give Us Money" images peppering the forum, thanks to my erstwhile image host Photobucket.

The long and short of it is that Photobucket wants $399 per year for a service that was free literally yesterday.

Well, that might be the end for me.

I'm not looking for pity, and I'm definitely not looking for a handout, but their service simply isn't worth it. I'm sure as guano not going to pay them for their slow, inefficient image hosting service.

I have thousands of images uploaded here and elsewhere over a period of many years, and I'm not sure that I can justify the time and effort to migrate to a new host and update all of the links.

In the next few days I'll try to move The Bloks Forum back to its default image set so that you can at least navigate the forum, but I'll need to think about how to proceed.

At the very least, the instruction scans and parts inventories will probably be offline for the foreseeable future.

Sorry folks.

From what I've read online they may have killed a lot of forums. Hopefully they will re-think this money grab.
I have to wonder how many people will pay vs. how many will just leave? Plus the suddenness and lack of warning seems like it will be bad press for them.

Lets hope it is not the end!

Yeah...the utter lack of warning is what really gets me. My forum took the hit a couple days ago and I imagine that this nonsense is just wreaking havoc across the web. Probably just going to drive more people to Facebook Smiley

"How do we compete with Imgur?"

"I know! We can charge for our service!"

Hopefully this isn't the end of the forum. :-(

I've managed to get the default imageset back in place, so we can navigate the pages without too much headache.

But you know that thing that prevents pages from loading? It also prevents me from editing the page structure to get rid of the Photobucket moneygrabs now serving as the banner and wallpaper.

Still working on it.

Thanks for working on this, your efforts are appreciated

Little by little. I've migrated some of the button images to Imgur in hope that the platform will be more stable.

I've never used that host before, but it seems to generate scrambled image names. That'll be a pain in the neck if I try to repost the parts catalog, the maintenance of which relies on a standard name format.

Thank you all for your patience!

Ok, there may be some cause for optimism.

Aside from the relatively easy to fix issue with the forum icons, I was most concerned about the Parts Catalogs and that Instruction Scans.

Looks like the Instruction Scans are just fine, though, because the posts provide clickable thumbnails, and that's apparently still ok under the new Photobucket moneygrab policy. Ultimately no real change there.

The Parts Catalogs are a bigger deal because, at present, the posts have hotlinked the part images. But with a little experimentation I found that linking to the non-clickable thumbnail will still bring up the images.

It'll take some minor effort to update the links, but I use a database to automate the formatting, so it should be manageable.

Still working to fix the background image and the forum header.

Was just commenting that my entire presence here had probably been obliterated, but, as you say, thumbnail links seem fine - unless that was just an oversight and we'll soon be seeing Money Grab II - Opposing the Thumbs...

This forum was the only reason I even had a Photobucket account.

Hope you can salvage all your hard work.

I was wondering what's going on. Now there's bunch “Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting" ads crap in the background.
Keep up the good work, Hegemon! I hate to have 1 less Forum in my list Smiley

I just received notice from Photobucket via email. Still haven't seen any problems on the forum or Facebook, but probably just a matter of time.

Hyperboards allows admins to add "modules" to customize their boards. I never attempted anything too ambitious, but I made a few minor tweaks here and there, such as highlighting the "you've got mail" indicator at the top left.

In the past few days it occurred to me that maybe these were contributing to the snafu that prevents me from correcting the logo & background images, so I deleted them. As you can see, no dice.

And that's it, alas. I've done everything I can think of to fix this issue. Well, except for one thing...

I used LinkedIn approximately once every decade, but today I sent a connection request to the erstwhile Hyperboards honcho. His profile still lists Hyperboards as a current company, so we'll see if it results in any progress.

To be honest, I'm not greatly optimistic, but I'll let you know if I hear anything.
