Thanks for that.

With some concern, I noted just today that the Mattel site includes no obvious mention of Mega Blocks or Mega Brands or Mega Construx, almost as if they aren't interested in promoting/maintaining the brand, or at least not as a part of the Mattel mission.

I'll be interested to see the new site...

Looks like it is all just links back to the megabloks.com site. The only new thing I see on the construx page is a blok Gru for the minions line.

Should be interesting if they actually release that....

I saw that too. as neat as that is and as happy I am for my son for that its still underwhelming. tho the collector site has FAQs:

What is Mega Construx™?
Mega Construx™ is a new construction toy brand in the MEGA™ brands portfolio, made to immerse and connect kids 4+ and collectors with worlds they love.

Mega Construx™ aims to challenges the status quo with authentic details and unexpected play experiences with highly detailed micro-figures, authentic translation of properties, and unique build-to-play features for each consumer.

Is Mega Bloks changing its name to Mega Construx?
No, Mega Bloks® will still exist as a brand that inspires preschoolers 1-5 to achieve their potential through building play. Mega Construx™ will be launching as a sibling brand to immerse and connect kids 4+ and collectors with worlds they love, with authentic details and unexpected build and play experiences.

Why the new identity?
This change is about more than just a new name. With Mega Construx™, we wanted to create something to immerse kids and construction fans in the worlds they love!

With product lines based on popular entertainment, toy and gaming franchises, Mega Construx™ aims to provide unexpected play experiences that empower fans to build their own worlds, re-define expectations, and discover new possibilities.

From top-quality design and manufacturing to authentic details, action-packed play features, innovative materials, and content that connects fans, we don’t just make toys, we create experiences!

Is Mega Construx™ a new company?
No. Mega Construx™ is a new brand of construction toys from the same maker as Mega Bloks®. Mega Bloks® and Mega Construx™ are sibling brands, and both part of the MEGA™ construction brand within the Mattel family.

What’s happening to my favorite product lines?
Not to worry. Aside from preschool licenses, most of your favorite Mega product lines are coming to Mega Construx™. That includes Halo, Destiny, Call of Duty®, TMNT™, Despicable Me, American Girl® and many more. We’re even adding some exciting new product lines for you to discover!

Will Mega Construx™ sets be compatible with my old Mega Bloks® sets?
Yes. Mega Construx™ is from the makers of Mega Bloks®, and all sets will be compatible with existing standard size bricks, including current Mega Bloks sets for builders 4+.

What’s going to happen to my Mega Bloks® website account?
If you have an existing Mega Bloks® account, don’t worry. It’s not going away.

Your account will continue to exist as a MEGA™ account. With your MEGA™ account, you will be able to log into the new Mega Construx™ site, and your info, settings, and preferences will all stay the same. And don't worry, your forum posts and gallery images aren't going anywhere!

So... No actual change, other than the name? At least not yet nor in the foreseeable future (judging by the sets featured on the site)?

Hmm.

I just noticed that a few of the set descriptions now state: Compatible brick fit to connect with other construction toy brands.

This is a departure from years of policy and IMO a step backward, because it explicitly declares that Mega is one brand among many, rather than asserting itself as a leading brand. I can't imagine that LEGO ever touts its brand-intercompability, for instance.

On the other hand, the past year has seen a very long overdue embrace of internal compatibility within Mega, where they've previously either ignored or downplayed this essential aspect of product design. Time will tell...

The topic in the CoD section made me go and look at the Construx site again, a few things I noticed:

1) Blok Gru is gone from the minions world graphic
2) New minions listed on the site (blind pack series 9, flamingo ride, snowy soccer)
3) Kubros - old ones gone from the store. New ones (Ripley, Alien, Picard, Bender, Peter, Red Ranger) are up.
4) Not sure if this is a change, but Star Trek is not listed on the "Worlds" page of the Construx site. Still listed on megabloks collector's site.

Thats it for now - I'm sure there is more....

Side note - not a fan of Kubros - but might have to get the Bender... looks like he opens up and has gold bars or something...

That's encouraging. I was hoping Kubros would at least stick around until I could get the Aliens ones. Smiley

Series 1 is easy enough to find, but Series 2 is pretty much just at TRU down here...and not even in case amounts. It's usually like six each of three different characters. Smiley
